Maybe you're a regular adrenaline junkie or maybe you're stuck in a rut and need to break your boring routine. Either way, you're considering skydiving! If you've never gone before, it's understandable that you'd be scared. Jumping out of an airplane isn't something you do every day. While you absolutely need to follow all the instructor's guidance, you definitely don't have to be afraid to skydive. Here are four reasons why:

1. You don't jump alone.

Novice jumpers will never jump by themselves. So, if the thought of having to remember how to work the parachute in time terrifies you, you don't have to worry about that at all. You will be connected to an instructor who has done hundreds, maybe thousands, of jumps. They will be the one to work the parachute too, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy the view.

2. You have a backup parachute.

If there is a problem with the parachute, do not panic right away. You will be jumping with at least one backup parachute. The reserve parachute is activated by an AAD (automatic activation device), which is an instrument that measures how fast you're falling and at what altitude. If you're falling too fast and are too low to the ground, the reserve parachute will automatically be opened.

3. Drop zones are on aviation maps.

You might be worried about other airplanes or obstacles in the sky while you're falling. You can take comfort in knowing that the Federal Aviation Administration covers skydiving and will have the drop zones loaded onto aviation maps. Other planes will know to avoid you. Some skydiving companies will have the pilot radio any other pilots in the area a couple of minutes before the jump so that anyone nearby is aware of you.

4. Skydiving doesn't feel like falling.

You might logically know skydiving is safe but hate the feeling of your stomach dropping during a fall. Surprisingly, however, skydiving doesn't actually feel like falling. It will feel more like a huge rush of air, like you feel when you stick your head out of a car window while it's moving. The Earth is so far away at this point that it will not appear to be getting close very fast, so you will not feel like you are falling.

Skydiving can be the thrill of a lifetime. With all the safety measures in place, you don't have to be afraid. Reach out to a skydiving company near you for more information.
